It is an unpleasant condition that can leave you feeling uncomfortable, low in energy and feeling toxic. The most common causes of constipation are –

1) Lack of exercise
2) Too little fiber in the diet
3) Not drinking enough fluids

Making a lifestyle change to address one or all of these causes is likely to help. However, a small percentage of constipation symptoms may be a result of a more serious condition. If you experience intense abdominal or rectal pain, alternating constipation and diarrhea, unexpected weight loss, pencil like stools, bowel movements that are more than 3 days apart, or blood in the stools, then you should visit your doctor.

Juicing for Constipation:
I highly recommend eating 5 portions of fruits and vegetables a day! This will ensure you are getting your daily fiber and help reduce the risk of developing a future episode of constipation. However, if you are constipated there are a specific high-fiber fruits and vegetables you can juice, which are known to have laxative effects.

<Fruits:
1) Apples
2) Oranges
3) All berries
4) Pears
5) Figs, prunes and dates

Vegetables:
1) Carrots
2) Broccoli
3) Cabbage
4) Cucumber
5) Spinach
6) Tomatoes

Constipation Remedies Juice #1 – Prune Juice.
Prune juice is an age-old remedy for constipation. It you buy it at the store, I recommend going for organic and avoiding juices with added sugar. To make prune juice at home, you will need to boil the prunes in water. To do this – remove the pits from the prunes. Use 5 parts water to 1 part prunes and simmer for about 4 hours. You now have 2 choices:
1.) put the mixture in a mini blender and make a puree you can drink 2.) or pour off the water into a glass to drink. I recommend the blender method, which will give you a lot more fiber and increase the effectiveness of this constipation home remedy.

Constipation Remedies Juice #2 – Apple and Pear Juice.
1 apple
3 pears

To ensure you get more fiber, juice the apple and pears whole (don’t peel them). The only thing you need to remove is the stems. Apple juice and pear juice are both great remedies for constipation. Combining them should have a great laxative effect.

Constipation Remedies Juice #3 – The V3.
3 tomatoes
1 cup of broccoli heads
2 cups of spinach

Juice the broccoli and spinach first, they produce less juice than the tomatoes. This will help flush the remaining broccoli and spinach juice out of the chute into the glass or cup. I juice the whole tomato to get the full benefits of its fiber and nutrition. You can add lemon juice to taste, if this juice is not so palatable for you. Alternatively, you can juice only the tomatoes to avoid the bitter greens. Tomato juice alone is a strong remedy for constipation.

Constipation Remedies Juice #4 – Carrot Juice.
5 large carrots

I recommend using organic carrots, so you don’t need to peel them since non-organic carrots are treated heavily with pesticides. Carrots are also one of the cheapest vegetables you can buy organic. Carrot juice is a great constipation remedy and really helps to bulk up poop and push it out.
