Juicing For Gout Remedies

wine and flowersWaking up in the middle of the night with your big toe on fire isn’t a lot of fun, and any movement or pressure can be excruciating. Fortunately gout, other wise known as “gouty arthritis” or “Rich man’s disease”, may be eased or even eliminated with dietary changes and gout natural remedies .

So if you have reached this page because you are suffering from gout, chances are you know that gout is caused by too much uric acid in the blood. Foods high in purine generate high levels of uric acid in the blood and should be reduced in the diet or even eliminated for a period of time. (Always check with your doctor before changing your diet, and discuss your plans beforehand)

Foods that are high in purine include:

  • Organ meats like liver
  • Animal protein
  • Sardines and Anchovies
  • Seafood
  • Some vegetables – asparagus, cauliflower, spinach and mushrooms
  • Foods high in fructose and sucrose
  • Alcohol, it is recommended to avoid entirely as it inhibits the excretion of uric acid

Foods and nutrients that can act as gout natural remedies:

Vitamin C has been shown to aid in the excretion of uric acid helping to lower uric acid blood levels as a gout remedy. Also vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) may also help with uric acid excretion.

Quercetin, an antioxidant, can also help excrete uric acid and may also help to reduce inflammation. Apples are a great source of quercetin.

Dark colored fruits, particularly cherries, have been researched and shown to produce lower levels of uric acid. Other dark fruits include purple/black grapes, blueberries and blackberries.

Juicing is a great way of obtaining an abundance of these helpful nutrients provided we choose the right fruits and vegetables. Another added bonus with juicing is you get an intake of fluids. Proper hydration is necessary to help flush out uric acid through the urine. Here are some juicer recipes you can use as home remedies for gout which supply the above nutrients.

Gout Remedies Juice #1 – Breakfast Fruit Blend
Orange and Grapefruit Slice
3 Large oranges
1 Grapefruit

Peel, juice and enjoy. Both grapefruit and oranges are great sources of gout fighting vitamins C and B5. If grapefruit is too sharp for you swap it out for another orange.

Gout Remedies Juice #2 – Cucumber & Carrot
1/2 Cucumber
5 Medium Carrots

Top and wash carrots and peel them if they are not organic. Wash the cucumber, but no need to peel it if its organic. Juice and enjoy.
Carrot is a good source of both vitamins C and B5 and cucumber is also a good source of B5.

Gout Remedies Juice #3 – Apple & Pear
2 Apples
1 Pear

Remove stems from apples and pears but don’t peal off the skin. Both these 2 fruits are great sources of quercetins. A lot of the quercetins are found in the skins of these fruits so be sure to juice them with the skins on.

Gout Remedies Juice #4 – Cherry Juice
5 cups of cherries

This one is a bit of work as the pits will damage your juicer. So you will need to remove the pits from them yourself. You will see that you need a lot of cherries to get a good amount of juice for this home remedy for gout. Alternatively, I recommend a cherry juice concentrate drink, that is one of the best, if not the best in the market.

I had my first gout attack about 10 years ago.
At the beginning I was having attacks every 6 months. Then gradually I was getting them
every 3 months, then every month and eventually every week.
It started at my big toe and then it was moving sometimes in my knees, and generally all
around my joints, in my feet. And the pain was agonising.
I have tried all the cures you can imagine.I tried ACV, lemons, drinking a lot of water, but
to no avail.I tried water fasting, juice fasting, baking soda, again without success.
I almost gave up meat, limiting it to only once a week ,gave up alcohol completely, again
    no success.
I was living on vegetables, lots and lots of fresh fruit, milk ,cheese beans and so on .My
eating habits could not be healthier ,or so I thought. But my gout was worsening.
Then I decided to increase the amount of fruit I was consuming, thinking that if some fruit
is healthy, more fruit will be more healthy. Some days I was eating fruit only ,others over 10
    portions a day.
And alas my gout instead of improving it became chronic ,it was there all the time.
I was desperate I did not know what to do.
And then one day accidentally I read an article about fructose, which is contained in fruit in
large quantities. It said that it increases uric acid, in a matter of minutes.
Fructose is also present in table sugar, and in HFCS, which is used in soft drinks.
I put two and two together and realised what I was doing wrong.
I stopped eating fruit and all other sugars, for a period of 3 weeks, and by magic I saw a
dramatic improvement.Pain was gone, swelling was gone, I was fine.
I re introduced fruit again in my diet but reducing them to 1 or 2 a day, and my gout completely
I do eat more meat now, and occasionally have an alcoholic drink, and thank God everything
    seems to be fine.
    Fructose was my enemy.

I’ve been suffering from gout for over 2 years now. I’m 37 and it started on my left toe and now jumps to my right also. Recently started using a juicer machine. 1 bag of organic celery and 1 med carrot. I’ve found the relieve to be almost immediate. When once it would take me 3 weeks to recover. Since my first celery juice blend the next day I was better within 2 days totally fine. Since then I haven’t had a gout attack. I’ve had scotch, steak sandwich, small portions of steak, spinach in a salad and so far no issues. It’s been 3 months. Before my celery juices I would constantly feel my toe gouty.

I wonder if anyone else has noticed how great celery is?

  5. veronica says:

Andres – that is an excellent testimonial to the power of juice. I can’t completely pin down why celery juice is so great, but it is very alkalizing and does contain lots of anti-inflammatory antioxidants.

All you GOUTERS and EX-GOUTERS,,,,This is a country related thing. I had my first attack in RUSSIA, the second in NAMIBIA and the third in SOUTH AFRICA (just joking)
In my experience there are a few overall causes for gout…..stressfull living, dehydration, fear, lack of sleep/rest, lack of exercise and of cause……. overindulgance.
