Which Pills are the Most Efficient to Relieve Migraine Pain?

If you suffer from intense headaches (perhaps you’re one of the few has been properly diagnosed with having migraines), the first concern is always how to eliminate them. You may have been prescribed several very different medications and suffered from unpleasant side effects, leading you to look into the best way to treat migraines. Even those new to migraines want to know what the most efficient treatment for migraine relief is. However, the effectiveness of a certain drug varies from person to person. Science has yet to find a miracle cure. However, many pills have become staples in treating migraines, and many natural treatments are beginning to gain attention.

If you’re migraines are frequent enough to require prescriptions (at least once a week), your doctor may prescribe several different medications. Preventative medications are designed to keep a migraine from happening, and are usually taken daily. These include drugs like anti-seizure medications, antidepressants, blood pressure medicine, and some antihistamines. Modern migraine treatments focus on preventative treatments, as including other drugs increases the risk of undesirable side effects. For extra precaution, however, your doctor may prescribe abortive medications (which should relieve a migraine once it has begun) and painkillers (to manage an unavoidable migraine).

Recently more interest has been focused on home remedies for migraines. Many patients have grown tired of constant medications, and the medical community has been able to support some claims made about natural remedies. Herbal remedies have been around for centuries, and can be found in teas, capsules, tablets, and sometimes in powder form. Herbs such as butterbur and feverfew have shown potential in prevention of migraines. Dietary supplements have also become popular. Many people who suffer from migraines also have low levels of magnesium. A daily supplement may not only improve migraines, but overall health.

Of course, pills are not the only way to treat migraines. Acupuncture, aromatherapy, and massage have all been used to prevent migraines and relieve stress. Relaxation techniques (such as focused breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, or meditation) may also help reduce the severity of migraines. Any doctor will advise you to follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly in order to improve overall health. The healthier you are, the less likely you are to have migraines. If you are curious about other courses of action in your migraine treatment plan, ask your doctor for advice.

Juicing for Diabetes – Green Bean Juice and Brussel Sprout Juice

Juicing For Diabetes

There are some great fresh juices that can help with the heath condition diabetes, but we have to be very selective about what produce we juice. First of all, we should avoid fruit juices because of their high sugar content. All fruits contain fructose, while some fruits, such as grapes contain pure glucose. Clearly this is not great for keeping blood sugar levels even. If we take into account that juicing removes the insoluble fiber from fruits that is needed to slow the down the digestion of the sugars they contain and couple this with the fact that one serving of fruit juice contains 3 or 4 or even more pieces of fruit, we can see just how much of a ‘sugary effect’ fruit juices can have upon our blood sugar.

The better alternative is to generally stick with vegetable juices which are, as a rule, considerably less sugary. Vegetables that grow in the ground such as carrots, potatoes, yams and beets are exceptions and are more sugary than other kinds of vegetables. (However these ‘ground vegetables’ are still less sugary than fruits and carrot juice is acceptable for helping to sweeten less pleasant tasting vegetable juices). Vegetables that grow above ground have very little sugar content and therefore make great juices for the diabetic.

Green Bean Juice and String Bean Juice
Of all the vegetables that grow above ground there are two in particular that are especially effective for diabetes – green beans (aka string beans) and brussel sprouts. Both these vegetables are unique in that they contain natural insulin! So making a a juice that is a mixture of the two (2 ounces of each) and drinking this daily is one of the best juicing recipes for diabetes.

Juicing Recipes for Kidneys – Kidney Cleanse

Cleanse the Kidney With Water
When it comes to the health and well being of our kidneys there is one fundamental thing we should do above all – drink plenty of water! Ensuring we drink at least 8 glasses of mineral water or purified water each day is the base line insurance for our kidney health. Water helps to keep the concentration of fluids in the kidney at a minimum by providing a constant flushing process for them. Too little water and hydration of the body will result in high concentrations of fluid in the kidney that harbors toxic chemicals that can harm the kidney. High concentration are also an environment in which salts and minerals can join together to create painful kidney stones symptoms.

Juicing for the Kidneys
In addition to drinking enough water every day we can add some juicing recipes to our diet that can also aid in flushing and cleansing the kidneys. Watermelon, parsley, lemon and apples are great for helping to stimulate the kidneys to flush out waste materials and keep itself cleansed. Drinking your juices in the morning on an empty stomach 30 minutes before eating anything else is the best time for detox and cleansing.

Kidney Juicing Recipes

Kidney Juicing Recipe #1 – Watermelon Flush
3 cups of watermelon

Put the 3 cups of watermelon in your blender and you good to go. Add some ice cubes if you want a nice cold summer drink. Because watermelon is so light and about 99% water I think it best blended rather than juiced. That way you get more fiber and a drink that is still easily digested.

Kidney Juicing Recipe #2 – Apple and Lemon
3 Apples
1/2 a lemon

Juice the apples with their skins on to increase the amount of antioxidants in the juice. Only use the flesh of the lemon. Lemon juice is great for helping to break down kidney stones and gall stones.

Kidney Juicing Recipe #3 – Parsley Power
2 apples
2 handfuls of parsley

The apples in this recipe help to sweeten the bitter (yet fragrant) taste of parsley juice. Parsley is also excellent for helping to flush mercury out of our bodies.

Juicing Recipes for Memory – Juicing to Help Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease

When we look at large populations studies that analyze the eating habits of thousands or even tens of thousands of people over many years or even decades we find consistently that those with the most fruits and vegetables in their diets are less likely to develop memory loss as a result of Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.

Juicing to Help Prevent Alzheimer’s Disease
One such study lead by Dr Qi Dai at the University of Vanderbilt provides strong evidence that drinking FRESH fruit and vegetables juices at least three times a week significantly helps to lower the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. Older Japanese people who live in Japan, Hawaii and Seattle were the subjects of this study and their mental cognition was measured over a period of 10 years. Of the many thousands of Japanese people studied, 1,836 in the Seattle area were 100% free of dementia and about 3/4 of these 1,836 people had one thing in common – they drink fresh fruit and vegetables juices at least three times a week. The total results of the study found that those who drink fruit and vegetable juices at least three times a week were 76% less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease than those who drink one or less juices per week.

All though Dr Qi Dai says they have not narrowed down if certain fruit or vegetables juices are better than others he believes this brain/memory protective effect may result from polyphenols, antioxidants that are found abundantly in the skins or all fruits and vegetables.

However, Dr Qi Dai and his colleagues did perform another Alzheimer’s based study that measured the effects of apple juice upon the memory of older mice. In this study, Dr Qi Dai and his team of researchers found that the mice who were given the human equivelent of 2-3 cups of apple juice daily had significantly better ‘mental acuity’

“This new study suggests that eating and drinking apples and apple juice, in conjunction with a balanced diet, can protect the brain from the effects of oxidative stress…there is something in apples and apple juice that protects brain cells in normal aging.”Dr Thomas Shea, University of Massachusetts

Juicing for Memory
So we can conclude from the above evidence that it doesn’t necessarily matter what fruit or vegetable juicing recipes for memory that we drink, just that we drink them at least three times a week. There are also two other important factors for juicing to improve memory naturally –

1) The juices need to be fresh to contain high levels of antioxidants. Commercial juices are way too processed and considerably lower in nutrition content.

2) We need to juice the skins of fruits and vegetables whenever possible. Exceptions to this rule would be non-organic produce in which the skins contain lots of pesticides that contain toxic heavy metals like lead and arsenic which are associated with a higher risk of Alzheimer’s and memory loss problems developing. For this reason, non-organic produce should be peeled. We should not juice the peel of oranges or grapefruits either as they contain indigestible toxic oils.

Also, the preliminary result of the mice study shows us that we may want to focus a little more on drinking apple juice.

Natural Remedies for Softening Stools

Though there are many chemical products on the market to soften stool, there are also many natural alternatives that have great potential for softening stool, many of which can easily be incorporated into a natural, healthy diet. Best of all, many of these natural stool softeners are easily acquired and may even be in your kitchen already.

High fiber diets have long been known to soften stool by adding volume to the stool by binding water, making stool less dense without a loss of water and, thus, softer. Many fruits are high in dietary fiber, with prunes and raisins being perhaps the best known. Fresh cherries and plums are also high in fiber, as are many other plant based foods such as vegetables, nuts, and whole grains.

Another way to soften stool is to add moisture to it, by drinking water. Drinking high amounts of water can greatly soften the stool, especially for someone who does not normally drink much water. This may entail drinking many glasses of water a day, often enough to interrupt sleep with bathroom trips, however the pain saved by softer stool may be worth it. Better yet, when combined with a diet high in fiber, the two habits work together to soften stool even further. The fiber binds the additional water into the stool to soften it even further.

If diet changes are still not enough to soften the stool, there are a few other natural remedies that can help to soften stool before resorting to chemical softeners. One such remedy is docusate salt, which is known to inhibit the colon’s ability to absorb water, thus leaving more water in the stool. Docusate salt can be ingested or injected as an enema, though it should not be used repeatedly as it can dehydrate the body. Mineral oil can also be used to lubricate the colon, though it should not be used with the dulcosate salt, as it may be absorbed in place of water.

Hard stool is a painful affliction that can be very difficult to overcome. Natural stool softeners can be a great way to ease this pain, without taking in unnatural chemicals or toxins, and potentially with additional health benefits from an improved diet.
